The Ministry of Health issued a statement on Wednesday detailing the operational plan for the department during a period of political transition. The Ministry confirmed that, for the time being, the existing responsibilities assigned to the various deputy ministers will remain in place. According to the Ministry’s report, the current deputy ministers will continue to coordinate and manage the areas under their respective purview until a complete political team is fully constituted.
L. Kukuraitis elaborated on this process, stating that while continuity is assured initially, the scope of duties is subject to review later. He noted, “Later, when all team members join and a clear overall picture of competencies is established, I do not rule out the possibility of reviewing, refining, or supplementing the areas they are responsible for.”
This structured approach aims to ensure governmental stability while preparing for a reorganized structure involving new ministers.
In terms of specific assignments, the Ministry clarified that deputy minister S. Krunkaitis will retain responsibility for overseeing the resilience of the healthcare system. This oversight specifically covers the department’s capacity to manage emergency situations, including extraordinary civil emergencies and special civil emergencies.
The announcement addresses the transition period surrounding the appointments of new ministers, such as A. Širinskienė, K. Vilkauskas, and S.
Gentvilas. The Ministry’s directive emphasizes that the current functional roles are temporary measures designed to maintain operational efficiency until the full composition and defined competencies of the new governmental team are established.
