P. Isoda is sentenced to leave the post of mayor: farewell – with the thought of the partisan leader

The Supreme Election Commission (VRK) has annulled the powers of the mayor following a ruling by the Lithuanian Court of Appeal. The court found P. Isoda guilty of abuse, fraud, and forgery of documents.

As a result of the conviction, Isoda was issued a €10,000 fine, which must be paid within two months. Furthermore, the court imposed a criminal penalty, stripping the politician of the right to work in public service for a period of three years. The annulment of the mayor’s authority was executed under the Election Code, which stipulates that such powers must be revoked once the indictment becomes legally effective.

The Social Democratic party has expressed disagreement with the court’s decision, and Isoda intends to challenge the ruling by appealing to a higher court. In a separate development concerning the “check-up” case, T. Martinaitis indicated his agreement with the removal of legal immunity.

While he stated he would resign his party membership, he announced his intention to share the related video content across social media platforms. The ruling marks a significant development in local governance, directly impacting the tenure and authority of the mayor. The legal proceedings underscore the oversight mechanisms governing elected officials and the adherence required by public figures under the law.

The ensuing appeals process will determine the final legal status of the mayor’s mandate following these serious allegations in the election context.
