In the political arena of Moldova, changes are taking place: Prime Minister A. Munteanu has resigned

President Maia Sandu addressed recent speculation concerning the scope of A. Munteanu’s government activities. Speaking at a press conference, Sandu explicitly denied claims that Munteanu’s efforts to combat alleged abuses were restricted.

During the press conference, R. Juknevičienė also commented on the political climate in Moldova. She characterized the nation as having been a site of the Kremlin’s hybrid war efforts.

Regarding the current leadership, Juknevičienė stated that the Prime Minister retained the autonomy to lead the government as he deemed appropriate. However, she also conveyed a desire for greater involvement from Munteanu, specifically noting that she wished for him to play a more visible role in making difficult decisions and in publicly addressing the concerns of the populace regarding necessary national reforms. Following these discussions, it was reported that Munteanu will temporarily retain the position of head of government.

This arrangement will allow him to remain in place while President Sandu engages in consultations with various political parties to determine a successor for the role. The statements underscore ongoing political dialogue within Moldova regarding governance and the path forward for the country.
