At the border with Poland – huge traffic jams: explained what’s going on(1)

A significant line of vehicles has formed at the border crossing, causing considerable delays for travelers. According to Giedrius Mišutis, an advisor from the State Border Guard Service, the traffic congestion on the Lithuanian side currently spans 2.5 kilometers and is moving slowly. He estimated that the vehicle at the rear of the line could take approximately half an hour to cover this distance.

Mišutis indicated that this level of congestion is a routine occurrence at the Kalvarija border post every weekend, with delays typically beginning to build up around noon on Fridays. While the original report described the line extending across the Polish side and noted extreme heat and lack of facilities, the official update confirmed the current status of the congestion on the Lithuanian side. The persistent nature of these weekend delays suggests that border control procedures are contributing to the buildup of traffic.

Travelers navigating the border crossing are advised to anticipate significant waiting times. The combination of high volume and operational slowdowns contributes to the extended line of vehicles.
