On Thursday, officers from the VSAT Pagėgiai Border Guard District conducted routine preventive and control measures targeting secondary migration across the border area near Latvia. The operation took place on the Riga-Pasvalys motorway, in the Pasvalys district, close to Škilinpamūšio village. The border guards stopped a passenger bus, a MAN Lion’s registered in Munich, Germany, for inspection related to potential illegal migration activities within Lithuania.
During the routine passport verification process, officers identified a foreign national among the passengers. The individual stated that he was Egyptian and presented a certificate of asylum seeker status issued in Latvia on May 12. Upon detailed inspection, the VSAT officers determined that the 25-year-old Egyptian had entered Lithuania without the requisite documentation.
Specifically, the man was found to be traveling without a valid passport accompanied by either a visa or a temporary residence permit issued by an EU country. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by border authorities to monitor and control irregular movements across the international border. The checks are part of the established protocol designed to maintain secure passage and verify the legal status of all individuals crossing into or transiting through Lithuania from neighboring countries like Latvia.
The enforcement action highlights the continuous vigilance required at the border to prevent unauthorized secondary migration.
