A German agent arrested for spying on a weapons company using a drone

Munich prosecutors have stated that a 37-year-old man was suspected of operating a drone over a sensitive location on Wednesday. Authorities allege that the individual captured images and videos deemed sensitive from a national security standpoint. Prosecutors further suspect that the man intended to transfer this material to an external or prohibited organization.

Police subsequently arrested the man near a facility associated with the weapons industry after receiving information regarding suspicious activity from the public. He remains in custody. This incident occurs against a backdrop of heightened international security concerns.

Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in 2022, the German government, identified as a major supporter of Ukraine, has disclosed multiple suspected instances of spying, sabotage, and disinformation plots linked to Russia. This pattern of concern is mirrored by several other NATO allies across Europe, who have filed similar accusations against Russia. These nations have characterized the alleged covert activities as constituting a hybrid war waged against the West.

The investigation into the drone incident underscores ongoing efforts by German authorities to monitor and counter potential threats to national security infrastructure.
