Alarm in Kaunas: suspicion of man setting fire to garbage bins

A fire incident was reported to the Kaunas Fire Brigade on the evening of July 17th, at approximately 7:29 pm. The initial notification came from a security guard stationed at the Maxima supermarket located on K. Baršausko street in Kaunas.

The guard reported observing an individual attempting to set fire to waste receptacles near the premises. Upon the initial report, there was no active fire present. Security personnel on site were able to manage and extinguish any immediate flames.

Following the incident, a service inspector was dispatched to the location to conduct a thorough investigation. The investigation focused heavily on reviewing available video footage to determine the cause of the potential fire. Initially, the circumstances suggested an intentional act.

However, after a detailed review of the footage, the inspector concluded that the fire was not malicious. Instead, evidence indicated that the trash can had ignited accidentally due to the use of a cigarette lighter. The official report filed by the Kaunas Fire Brigade details this sequence of events.

While the initial alarm raised concerns about arson, the subsequent investigation clarified that the incident was accidental in nature. The quick response from the on-site security staff was instrumental in mitigating the situation and preventing further damage from the fire.
