The recent high-profile incident involving a truck carrying cigarettes valued at €2 million, which implicated a Latvian tobacco factory, has highlighted enforcement activities.
Despite such notable cases, existing data suggests that previous control efforts across Lithuania, including those in Klaipėda, have been viewed by some as more symbolic than substantive. Considering that approximately 1.4 million trucks traversed Klaipėda last year, the overhaul of the city’s infrastructure and the associated control protocols are presented as necessary steps to manage the persistent strain placed on the transport network.
