During a press briefing on Wednesday, T. Valiu provided an update on the progress of drafting the next year’s state budget. He noted that currently, only the deputy minister assigned responsibility for the budget formation process has commenced work.
While inquiries are being received, Valiu stated that the volume remains moderate, suggesting there is adequate time, as the main preparatory work is scheduled to begin in August. The government had previously approved the plan in March to develop the draft for the following year’s state budget. Negotiations concerning the future of the country’s public finance plan are slated to commence over the summer months.
The timeline for the financial planning remains structured. In addition to the annual budget cycle, the Ministry of Finance is tasked with updating the economic development scenario covering the period of 2026–2029, a process due in September. Following this, the Ministry of Finance is responsible for submitting the government’s draft budget to the Seimas by October 15.
These steps are integral to ensuring a comprehensive financial roadmap for the nation. The current moderate pace of inquiries suggests that while the process is underway, the full scope of planning for the country’s finances will intensify as the summer progresses toward the main drafting phase.
