The Minister of Health has issued an order making certain medical devices accessible through mandatory health insurance funds starting July 24th. This provision expands coverage for managing common health issues, specifically addressing sleep disorders. Obstructive apnea is identified as a prevalent sleep disorder characterized by recurring pauses or shallow breaths during sleep.
Such disruptions prevent adequate rest, often leading to persistent fatigue, daytime drowsiness, and impaired concentration. Over time, untreated apnea significantly elevates the risk of various serious conditions, including cardiovascular disease, stroke, and diabetes. To manage these risks, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP or autoCPAP) oxygen devices are now covered under the updated insurance guidelines.
These devices will be prescribed to patients who have undergone a polysomnography test and have been diagnosed with moderate or severe obstructive apnea. The implementation of this coverage aims to improve patient outcomes by ensuring access to necessary equipment for proper sleep management. By making CPAP and autoCPAP devices available through compulsory health insurance funds, the Ministry seeks to improve the overall health profile of individuals suffering from these disruptive sleep patterns.
This measure is expected to facilitate earlier intervention and better long-term care for apnea sufferers.
