The Construction Inspectorate arrived at the construction site on the Nemunas Island: there is no permit for work

Following inquiries from the portal Kas vyksta Kaune, an inspection was conducted regarding ongoing development activities. In response to the investigation, the municipality issued a written confirmation stating that the required construction document from IS “Infostatyba” for the specific object in question has not been issued. The Kaunas city municipality has since asserted that, in its view, no formal permit for the works is necessary.

The construction work itself commenced on July 28 near the “Science Island,” situated on an island location. According to Pauliaus Pachomovas, head of the Construction Management Department, the municipality stated that the area is being prepared for future development. He specified that the space is intended to accommodate various attractions and mobile installations that require a solid foundation, noting that a viewing wheel could potentially be constructed there.

Separately, the inspection highlighted a significant discovery. In April, the VšĮ “Kaunas IN,” utilizing the municipality’s administrative department, uncovered evidence of a clandestine nicotine factory. This site was found to contain operational production lines and numerous boxes of finished products.

These findings represent a distinct operational issue separate from the ongoing infrastructure development managed by the municipality. The combination of development plans for the island and the discovery of unauthorized industrial activity underscores the current regulatory focus on the site.
