Testifying before the court, Jencius expressed a degree of detachment from the group’s ultimate objectives. He stated that while he understood the gravity of the potential criminal acts, he did not initially know that he was participating on behalf of a terrorist organization. He claimed that the resulting consequences of his actions were unknown to him at the time of his involvement.
According to Jencius, his involvement stemmed from acute financial hardship. He explained that his participation was motivated by the necessity of earning money, as he was reportedly the sole breadwinner for his family. He recounted that the initial understanding of the task agreed upon in Königsberg involved activities other than explosives, such as massage or cosmetic items.
However, the situation changed when the men involved began cooperating with Russian interests. Jencius stated, “Because my financial situation was difficult, I was the only breadwinner in the family… I agreed to carry out the given task.” His testimony highlights a conflict between his understanding of the assigned duties and the material reality of explosives being used in the incident under investigation.
