The finish of the University Student Games: VDU among the four best European universities

The VDU secured fourth place in the university medal ranking out of 171 participating institutions. The university earned a total of seven awards, comprising two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals. In the overall university ranking, the VDU ranked just behind the top three universities: Zagreb University from Croatia held first place, Zamolskio Academy from Poland took second place, and Strasbourg University from France achieved third place.

The medals accumulated by the VDU represent the sole achievements for Lithuanian representatives at the European University Games. Consequently, this placed Lithuania in sixth position within the medal ranking among 31 participating countries. A significant contributor to these successes was badminton player Viltė Paulauskaitė.

She won the gold medal in the singles final with a score of 2:0 (21:13, 21:13), defeating Rachelė Sugden from the university in Glasgow, Scotland. Paulauskaitė’s victory established her as the first Lithuanian athlete to win a medal at the European University Games. These results highlight the competitive standing of the VDU within the international university sporting arena.
