Following a pre-trial period spanning nearly four months, the prosecutor’s office has concluded its inquiry. On Tuesday, the prosecutor serving the Vilnius District Prosecutor’s Office announced a decision to terminate the ongoing investigation. This determination followed a comprehensive review by the prosecutor, who assessed all data collected throughout the pre-trial investigation.
The decision to close the case was based on the finding that no evidence substantiated the commission of a crime or any criminal misconduct. The investigation was originally initiated after the prosecutor assessed information provided by members of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP). The initial focus was to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a sound recording device at a meeting held by the LSDP on April 16th of this year.
The procedural review sought to determine the nature and context of the recording device found on the premises. While the initial inquiry addressed potential illegal surveillance, the final assessment by the prosecutor determined that the evidence did not meet the threshold required to sustain criminal charges. Consequently, the prosecutor has officially closed the case, concluding that the investigation into the unlawful installation or use of technical means for collecting information should cease.
The decision marks the formal conclusion of the months-long judicial process concerning the matter.
