For E. Samoškaitė – a blow both from journalists and her own side: she is being removed from the organization, LRT will start a probationary period. The journalist herself has reacted (1)

The Association of Professional Journalists (ŽPA) released a statement shortly after the prosecutor’s office provided updates regarding an incident involving a prominent journalist. Although the pre-trial investigation into the matter was subsequently halted, the association confirmed that a recording device was recovered from a journalist attending a recent meeting of the “Social Democrats” council. Following an evaluation of the information disseminated by the General Prosecutor’s Office concerning the recording instrument found at the LSDP council meeting, the ŽPA board voted unanimously on Tuesday to expel journalist Eglė Samoškaitė from the association.

The meeting in question, titled “B. Davidonytė, M. Katelynas, S.

Jakučionis: is knowledge of the truth absolute?”, brought the issue to the forefront of professional scrutiny. The board’s decision was based on the finding that the recording device belonged to E. Samoškaitė, who is affiliated with LRT.

Furthermore, the association noted that E. Samoškaitė had previously denied this fact both in public forums and during internal discussions with fellow journalists. The incident highlights ongoing discussions within the field of news reporting regarding ethical boundaries.

The actions taken by the ŽPA underscore the association’s commitment to maintaining professional standards among its members, particularly when sensitive recording equipment is involved in reporting on political discussions. The decision serves as a formal consequence following the discovery of the recording device.
