K. D. Prunskienė passed away last Thursday at the age of 84.
Her active political career began in 1988. Following a stroke in February 2012, she has not participated in public life in the country since that time. Funeral rites were held at Vilnius St.
John’s Church, where the official ceremony for laying wreaths was conducted. A Holy Mass in her honor was scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
During the service, attendees shared memories of Prunskienė’s contributions. For instance, A. Sinevičius was quoted as saying that she “had the gift of God to choose people.”
The ceremony was attended by numerous high-ranking officials.
Notably, President Gitanas Nausėda did not attend the services, as he was reportedly working remotely from Madeira at the time of the farewell. The day’s proceedings provided a structured tribute to her service. The formal memorial events commenced at 2 p.m.
