The inaugural Oktoberfest celebration in Kaunas took place in 2020. Initially, the event was modest in scale, featuring only a limited number of tents set up within the parking area adjacent to the Volfas Engelman factory. Despite the minimal initial setup and the challenge of late-stage organization, the festival generated a level of public interest that significantly surpassed the organizers’ expectations.
According to Marius Horbačauskas, the general director of Volfas Engelman, the enthusiasm demonstrated by the community was notable. Horbačauskas stated that although advertising efforts were limited due to the late planning timeline, the concept proved to be highly appealing to the local populace. This unexpected positive reception prompted the organizing committee to reassess and develop plans for the festival’s future expansion.
The substantial popularity of the event is quantitatively reflected in the attendance figures. During the most recent iteration of the festival, the event successfully hosted approximately 8,000 visitors over the two-day period. The rapid and strong reception since the very first Kaunas Oktoberfest indicates a growing cultural draw for the event.
The success of this initial venture has established a promising trajectory for the festival within the city.
