Following a severe storm, President G. Nausėda convened with Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius on Tuesday afternoon to assess the ramifications of the weather event. During the discussions, the President also met with the mayor of the Utena district, one of the municipalities hardest hit by the storm.
During a subsequent press conference, R. Dilba, an advisor, addressed the findings, stating that the recent storm exposed several systemic weaknesses. A primary concern highlighted was the necessity of ensuring adequate assistance reaches the most vulnerable segments of the population, specifically mentioning socially vulnerable and isolated residents.
Furthermore, the discussion revealed logistical shortcomings, particularly concerning the insufficient number of available generators needed for recovery efforts. Dilba noted that while the collective response to the storm’s aftermath—covering both the dissemination of information and the speed of reconstruction efforts—showed improvement, challenges remain. The review emphasized that while progress has been made, sustained attention is required to address these identified gaps.
The focus moving forward remains on bolstering community support structures and improving emergency resource stockpiles to better manage the impacts of severe weather events in the future.
