Vilnius, you’ve never seen before: unexpected city tours

The Vilnius Development Company and the non-academic Vilnius Festival are collaborating to host the inaugural “Vilnius Greenery” festival dedicated to exploring the city’s public spaces. The event aims to shift public perception of the urban environment from viewing it solely as a finished product to recognizing it as an ongoing process of creation. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in creative workshops held in the Valakampiai district.

Vilnius has seen a notable increase in both new and renovated public areas in recent years, which have become integral components of local community life. However, the festival addresses a common observation: while residents are intimately familiar with their immediate local parks and squares, newer or less-known public spaces in other parts of the city often remain undiscovered. The primary goal of the “Vilnius Greenery” festival is therefore to facilitate the discovery of these diverse locations.

By doing so, the event intends to deepen residents’ understanding of how these public spaces are developed and to foster a broader appreciation for the overall green infrastructure of the city. This initiative encourages community engagement with the city’s evolving landscape, allowing citizens to better understand the processes behind the city’s greening efforts.
