A draft Government Resolution has been introduced with the objective of significantly enhancing Lithuania’s integrated airspace defense capabilities and establishing a standardized model for small-scale air defense systems. According to the Ministry, standard military procurement procedures typically restrict the ability to select specific manufacturers when purchasing advanced defense technology, particularly for radar systems. To circumvent these limitations and secure necessary equipment, the proposed resolution includes a specific exception.
This exception will permit the acquisition of advanced defense components, namely the short-range “Spexter” radar and the passive “Twinvis” radar, both sourced from the German firm Hensoldt. This initiative is framed within a broader context of heightened regional security awareness, following recent air incidents reported in neighboring Baltic states. The proposed systems have been confirmed to be compatible with the existing military hardware utilized by the Lithuanian armed forces.
