M. Sinkevičius stated on Wednesday during an interview with “Radio News” that he has confidence in the minister and has observed her dedicated efforts. He revealed that he recently initiated a working group, which will be led by the minister, with the mandate to undertake a comprehensive review of the entire education system.
According to Sinkevičius, the group’s objective is to critically examine systemic flaws rather than merely considering routine educational reforms. The goal, he specified, is to pinpoint the primary pain points and develop solutions that can be implemented swiftly, requiring a “scalpel, surgical intervention.”
Addressing the scope of the reforms, the Prime Minister acknowledged that resolving deep-seated issues within the education sector may exceed the timeframe of a single term. Nevertheless, Sinkevičius stressed that the matter remains a top national priority.
He mentioned that while criticism regarding the education system’s inherent inertia has been voiced, partly due to historical structures, he remains optimistic about the ongoing efforts. Sinkevičius emphasized that the current situation requires more than incremental adjustments. He stated that the committee must thoroughly look beyond surface-level issues.
He clarified that the focus must not be limited to minor policy tweaks, but rather on fundamentally reassessing the structure. The involvement of the minister is central to this effort, as her leadership is crucial in guiding the group to identify and address the core structural weaknesses within the educational framework.
