J. Olekas: next week we will discuss changes in the parliamentary committees with the party presidents

J. Olekas, the head of the Parliament, informed journalists on Thursday that detailed discussions regarding upcoming adjustments are anticipated in the next few weeks. These discussions are expected to address anticipated changes within the membership structure, which are projected to result in proportional representation across all political parties.

Olekas stated that, as of yet, there are no formal proposals or offers from the various parties, suggesting that signatures are pending. He added that several committee presidents, who currently represent the “Nemuno aušra” party, are likely to change their roles and assume different positions. According to the head of the Parliament, consensus has not yet been reached regarding the specific modifications to the Parliament’s leadership.

However, he indicated that the governing majority will likely need to cede one of the Deputy Speaker positions to the Democratic party, “For the sake of Lithuania.”

Overall, the process suggests a period of transition. While precise details are not finalized, the expectation is that the composition of the Parliament, including leadership roles, will undergo adjustments. These changes are expected to be discussed next, though the exact timeline remains subject to negotiation.

Olekas concluded by noting that the finalization of these arrangements is probably contingent upon broader party agreements.
