Lithuania says goodbye to J. Šuklinas who died unexpectedly: “It’s hard to believe that this happened today”

The community gathered to pay respects to J. Šuklinas, whose relatives and comrades arrived at the funeral proceedings starting Sunday morning. The deceased parliamentarian, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 40, was discovered on his farm in the Zarasai district, near local beehives.

Earlier reports had indicated that Mr. Šuklinas had contracted a virus while traveling and subsequently underwent medical treatment. The formal funeral service was held at Visagino St.

Apostle Paul’s Church at midday. Following the ceremony, the coffin was escorted out at 3 PM, commencing a procession that was accompanied by a military honor guard. The service marked a significant loss for the nation, with tributes noting that Lithuania has lost a prominent figure.

The final resting place for J. Šuklinas has been confirmed as the old cemetery in the city of Visagino, specifically within the Ažukalviškės village. The gathering of family and friends underscored the impact of his passing.

The proceedings provided a structured farewell, moving from the initial gatherings at the funeral hall to the formal rites at the church, culminating in the procession to his final burial site.
