Eurostat: preliminary annual inflation in the euro area in May was 3.2%, in Lithuania 5.1%.

In april, the annual inflation rate across the euro area stood at 3.0%, while Lithuania recorded a higher rate of 4.9%. Analysis of the primary components driving euro area inflation suggests varying trends for the coming month. Forecasting for May indicates that energy prices are anticipated to register the largest year-over-year increase, projected at 10.9%, an uptick from 10.8% recorded in april.

Following this, services are expected to see growth of 3.5%, a notable rise when compared to the 3.0% observed in april. Conversely, the inflation rate for food, alcohol, and tobacco is projected to moderate to 2.0%, down from 2.4% in april. Furthermore, non-energy industrial products are expected to increase to 0.9%, up slightly compared to the 0.8% reported in april.

Beyond the headline inflation figures, the economic landscape presents several areas of concern. Agricultural sectors, for instance, remain concerned about the stability of commodity pricing, specifically regarding falling milk market prices. On a broader note, the market atmosphere is characterized by heightened tension, suggesting that Lithuania faces new economic risks that could impact multiple sectors across the economy.

These varied pressures suggest continued volatility in consumer spending and industrial output moving forward.
