Two underage Somalians traveled to Berlin via Lithuania with foreign Swedish documents

On Thursday evening, officers from the VSAT border guard detachment in Pagėgiai intercepted a MAN bus, which was registered in Estonia, while it was traversing the route between Tallinn and Berlin. The inspection took place on the main Bauska-Panevėžys road, in the vicinity of Škilinpamūšio village within the Pasvaly district. The border guards’ attention was drawn to two Somali nationals aboard the vehicle.

Upon initial inspection, it was discovered that the documentation presented by the passengers was highly irregular. Specifically, a 17-year-old individual displayed an identity card purporting to be from Sweden, while the 16-year-old presented a Swedish passport. Officers noted that both documents bore significant discrepancies when compared to the physical appearance of the people presenting them.

Furthermore, the authorities determined that the documents were issued under the names of third parties. During the continuation of the check and subsequent inspection of the two individuals, Latvian asylum seekers’ cards were recovered in their possession. Given the inconsistencies surrounding the documentation, the border guards conducted a search, operating under the suspicion that the Swedish credentials did not belong to the Somalians who presented them.

The incident highlights ongoing enforcement activities at the border concerning identity verification and documentation fraud.
