On September 1st, an initiative was launched encouraging individuals to donate an apple tree to a first grader or any student. According to a recent press release, the core concept is that the recipient will receive the harvest from the donated apple tree every September throughout their academic career. Gytė Liorančaitė, head of the “Obuolyno” company, promoted the idea, suggesting that donating a tree offers benefits extending beyond nature, positively impacting both children and their families.
She highlighted the lasting value of such a contribution over ephemeral material gifts. The project aims to establish a sustainable resource within the Moletai district. In the near future, the initiators plan to cultivate several hundred apple trees this autumn, with the long-term goal of developing a 2.6-hectare garden area.
The concept was developed entirely by the project’s founders. The initiative seeks to build a tangible connection between education and nature by providing a continuous, annual gift derived from the donated tree. This structure allows the gift to sustain the student’s development, starting from their first year of schooling.
