The District Court of Alytus, specifically the Druskininkai Palace, recently ruled that several individuals were guilty of smuggling and the unlawful disposal of excise goods. The court determined that the smuggling operation was carried out by an organized group involving accomplices located in both Belarus and Lithuania. According to the criminal case documentation, the accused were responsible for transporting large quantities of cigarettes.
Over the period spanning from May 2025 to mid-November, the group utilized airplanes to move these goods across the state border, moving them from Belarus into Lithuania. Authorities established that during this timeframe, at least 9,000 packs of cigarettes were illicitly moved. These goods, which included specific brands such as “Minsk 5 Super Slims,” “Minsk Capital QS,” and “NZ Gold,” were marked with Belarusian banners.
The total estimated value of the smuggled cigarettes was nearly 45,000 euros. The court proceedings focused on the coordinated nature of the crime, detailing how the accused operated within a structured network spanning both Belarus and Lithuania to bypass legal trade regulations. The ruling confirms a significant cross-border trafficking operation involving excise goods.
