On Wednesday, officers from the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) stationed at the Adutiškis border checkpoint within the Vilnius Border Guard District detected a sound indicative of a drone. Utilizing specialized anti-drone equipment, the personnel successfully grounded the unmanned aerial vehicle. The border guards located the drone in a buckwheat field while conducting an inspection of the area.
Adjacent to the drone, they discovered a rectangular box wrapped in black polyethylene film attached to the wooden body of the homemade device. The border guards established a search party in the vicinity. After several hours, two men arrived intending to retrieve the drone via a courier service.
Upon noticing the presence of the border guard personnel, the two individuals fled toward the village of Vosiūnai. However, the fugitives were apprehended with the assistance of a service dog. The VSAT officers determined that one of the detained individuals was a local resident aged 65, and the other was a 25-year-old courier.
The incident took place at the border checkpoint, highlighting the vigilance of the border guard in the district.
