A fire broke out in Nida, the so-called Shanghai: the flames engulfed garages converted into living quarters

The Neringa Fire and Rescue Service responded to multiple incidents over the past few days. On Friday afternoon, July 10th, the service was first called to a fire that began in Nida itself. Firefighters were dispatched to Vyturniu gatvė at approximately 13:10.

Later that weekend, emergency crews managed intense fire conditions amidst high winds and were also involved in a rescue operation, successfully retrieving two individuals from the water. A separate incident occurred on Monday morning in Vilnius. An 18-year-old man riding an electric motorcycle was struck by a vehicle and subsequently caught fire near Ariogala on the Autostrada.

Firefighters responded to extinguish the blaze, with assistance provided by passing civilians. Reports also indicated that surrounding residential buildings caught fire. Separately, local residents reported another fire in an area of former garages in Nida, an area known locally as Nida’s Shanghai.

When crews arrived at the scene, they observed the roof of the structure was actively burning. This building complex is comprised of 22 semi-detached garages that have been adapted for residential use.
