A Frenchman was arrested in Šakių district, packed with migrants in the cargo compartment of a rented minibus

Authorities operating in the Šakių district intercepted a vehicle near Kiduliai village on Sunday, leading to the detention of a 23-year-old French national. The stop was initiated by the VSAT Vilnius Border Guard Detachment, who subsequently provided intelligence to the Criminal Intelligence Department. The vehicle, driven by the French citizen in a rented car that had been reported stolen, was found to be transporting a significant number of individuals.

Initial reports indicate that the occupants were not standard goods, but rather a group of undocumented migrants. A total of 19 people were stopped. Documentation revealed that the group consisted primarily of migrants from Iran, with 11 individuals identified as Iranian, and four others from Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Authorities noted that nearly all foreign nationals present lacked verifiable documentation confirming their identity and citizenship, with the exception of two Iranian citizens. The operation revealed evidence of illicit human trafficking for personal gain, prompting the VSAT Pagėgiai Border Guard Detachment to pass critical information to the Criminal Intelligence Department. Following the discovery, the French driver was arrested and transferred to a detention center for questioning.

The incident highlights ongoing efforts by border security agencies to combat illegal crossings and human trafficking operations within the region.
