A significant fire broke out in the Fontenblo forest late in the afternoon, located approximately 60 kilometers southeast of the capital. Officials described the blaze as being of “exceptional scale” and “very strong.” By Monday morning, authorities reported that the fire had expanded over 800 hectares and continued to spread, necessitating a partial closure of the A6 highway, the primary north-south route through the country. Operations involving firefighting aircraft were suspended at dusk.
According to the Senos and Marne fire service, approximately 15 homes in the adjacent village of Vodué were evacuated, while fire crews remained engaged in efforts to protect several other nearby towns. The blaze occurred just prior to the national holiday on July 14. The response to the incident involved an estimated 400 firefighters.
Eric Brocardi, a representative from the French national firefighters federation, noted that this represented a first-time occurrence.
