Mayor Valdas Benkunskas stated that Lithuania remains committed to supporting Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of allowing the nation to experience periods of normalcy and peaceful life. He referenced an initiative proposed by Kyiv Mayor V. Klitschko to establish a recreational riverside park in Kyiv, which would serve as a place of respite for residents of the war-torn country.
Benkunskas noted that this project is also intended to symbolize the enduring friendship between Kyiv and Vilnius. The article highlighted that the first project receiving direct funding within Ukraine is situated in Vilnius. The local council of the Lithuanian capital allocated a targeted contribution of 600,000 euros to this effort through the Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund.
In addition to the humanitarian and financial support, security measures are being implemented in Vilnius. To ensure public order, police officers will be deployed to the Vilnius City Municipality and the Vilnius City Municipality Administration building. The commitment underscores a sustained effort from the Lithuanian capital to assist Ukraine amid ongoing conflict.
The support spans both symbolic gestures, such as the proposed Kyiv park, and tangible financial investments within the Lithuanian administrative structure. These actions collectively demonstrate a continuous dedication to aiding Ukraine’s recovery and stability.
