A recent heavy thunderstorm, which affected a large section of Switzerland following a prolonged heat wave, resulted in a disastrous lightning strike in the Binn Valley. The incident occurred during the night in an Alpine meadow situated near the 2503-meter-high Eggerhorn mountain, located south of the Rhone River. According to reports initially published by the online news website Pomona, the natural event caused significant disruption.
A local sheep farmer stated that, following the strike, the animals were observed gathered closely together within a fenced enclosure as a precautionary measure. The farmer’s account highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by agricultural communities. He noted that the presence of wolves has become a persistent concern among sheep farmers, often necessitating protective measures for their flocks that were previously unnecessary.
Following the storm, cleanup efforts were required on the mountain. The farmer confirmed that the resulting carcasses from the area were subsequently removed by a helicopter.
