A point of smuggling cigarettes and drugs was destroyed in Marijampolė district

The local police department reported a significant seizure of contraband that occurred on Friday evening in the Mokolai district of Marijampolė. According to the police, officers discovered a garage containing a substantial quantity of goods and materials. The primary items seized included eight boxes, which collectively held approximately 4,000 packs of cigarettes.

These cigarettes were noted to be marked with the insignia of the Belarusian Republic. Furthermore, the investigation revealed a plastic container within the garage holding a light-colored, fibrous substance, which authorities suspect may be cocaine. At the time the police responded to the scene, two men, identified by age as 48 and 39, were apprehended.

Both individuals were subsequently taken into custody and transported to the local police station for processing. Authorities have initiated a pre-trial investigation to determine the full scope of the illegal activities. The ongoing inquiry is focusing on two main offenses: the illicit disposal of excise goods, relating to the cigarettes, and drug storage, concerning the suspected narcotics.

The police department confirmed that the investigation remains active as they process the seized materials and interview the detained individuals. The discovery highlights ongoing efforts by the police to combat illegal trade within the district.
