A skuodiškis known to law enforcement was caught for smuggling a quarter of a million euros in value

VSAT Border Guard Coast Guard Detachment officers apprehended a 70-year-old man in the Kretinga district on Wednesday evening following the discovery of an illicit cargo within a warehouse. During the operation, border guards seized a substantial quantity of contraband tobacco products. The confiscated goods included 44,770 packs of cigarettes from various brands, such as Marlboro Touch, Marlboro Gold, Marlboro Original Gold, Winston Blue, NZ Gold, and Minsk Capital QS, which were found without proper labeling.

Additionally, authorities recovered 1,480 packs of Minsk Capital QS bearing Belarusian excise tax stamps. In total, the seizure comprised 46,250 packs of contraband cigarettes. The combined value of the seized tobacco, including all applicable taxes that must be paid in Lithuania, was determined to exceed 240,000 euros.

Following the discovery, the Investigation Department of the Criminal Investigation Unit within the VSAT Border Guard Coast Guard Detachment commenced an official investigation into the criminal possession of excise goods. The authorities are proceeding with this investigation to address the illegal trafficking of tobacco products. The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by border enforcement agencies to combat smuggling and ensure compliance with national excise tax regulations.
