A sudden warning to drivers on a hot weekend: many people forget this

A study conducted by the insurance company “Lietuvos draudimas” revealed that over half of the country’s drivers have experienced reduced visibility while operating vehicles due to intense sunlight. While these instances of impaired vision typically last only a few seconds, the brief duration is sufficient to prevent drivers from noticing sudden hazards, such as a vehicle stopping unexpectedly, a cyclist on the road, a pedestrian, or any unforeseen obstacle. Beyond blinding sunlight, experts caution that other factors significantly elevate the risk of accidents during extended journeys.

Fatigue and wearing ill-fitting footwear are also cited as contributors to increased accident risk for drivers on long drives. The report underscores the immediate danger posed by sudden changes in visibility caused by bright sunlight. Such momentary lapses in vision can have serious consequences, regardless of how brief the exposure is.

Adherence to safe driving practices is emphasized to mitigate risks associated with environmental conditions and personal fatigue.
