A truck fell off the highway and seriously damaged two cars

On June 23 at 10:23 a.m., Kaunas Fire Brigade personnel responded to an incident on the A1 road, located at the 180 km mark between Klaipėda and Vilnius. Firefighters were alerted that a cargo truck had sustained an accident, causing it to fall off the roadway. Upon arrival, crews discovered that the incident involved significant fuel and oil leaks affecting two passenger vehicles.

Investigators determined that the damage occurred when the truck’s brake disc broke and pierced the fuel tank of a VW Passat, as well as the engine compartment of a VW Arteon. This impact resulted in the spillage of approximately 50 meters of oil products. Firefighters immediately took action to contain the environmental hazard, successfully neutralizing the pollutants at the scene.

Furthermore, the area required extensive cleanup, as the vehicles were subsequently pulled off the main thoroughfare. The road surface was found to be covered in debris and various plastic components from the damaged cars. The response highlighted the necessary efforts to mitigate environmental damage following vehicular accidents.

Authorities managed the spill and cleared the roadway, ensuring that the A1 remained safe for subsequent traffic flow after the incident involving the large truck.
