After a public conflict – unexpected decision of J. Statkevičius: left Palanga and again attacked the mayor

Following a period of public conflict with the Mayor of Palanga, designer J. Statkevičius has left the resort town. His departure was marked by social media posts containing critical commentary regarding the local amenities and environmental conditions.

The disagreement between Statkevičius and the local political leadership escalated following Lithuanian Independence Day. During his stay in Palanga, Statkevičius utilized his social media accounts to critique several aspects of the resort, including the state of the beach infrastructure, perceived high costs of living, and what he described as long-term neglect of the Baltic Sea water quality. In a recent Instagram story, Statkevičius announced his departure, stating that he was moving to a location where he believed tourists encountered better conditions.

When addressing the situation, he commented on the local environment, noting, “I’m driving where the showers are. Not for arrogant merrymakers. I just don’t want allergies.

The water is tragic. It’s a shame for Palanga.”

The criticism leveled by Statkevičius was directed not only at the Mayor of Palanga but also extended to the general upkeep and natural resources of the area. The designer’s public statements highlighted a notable tension between the resident and the municipal authorities, solidifying the narrative of a falling out over the perceived quality of life and public services within Palanga.
