Police operations near the village of Viečiūnai escalated after a driver failed to comply with explicit instructions from uniformed officers, initially increasing speed and smoking in the area. The subsequent search for the individual continued, leading authorities to the location where an unattended “VW Passat” was found deep within the forest. Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers confirmed suspicions and discovered a substantial amount of contraband.
Inside the car, investigators found twelve large bundles. These bundles contained a significant cache of cigarettes, specifically 6,000 packs of “NZ Gold” and “Minsk 5 Superslims,” which bore Belarusian markings. Preliminary assessments indicated that the total value of the seized tobacco products, inclusive of all mandatory taxes payable in Lithuania, amounted to nearly 33,000 euros.
This incident follows previous seizures where police have located contraband cigarettes both within company warehouses and inside private vehicles. The recovery of the materials in the forest suggests an ongoing effort to intercept illegal goods. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abandoned vehicle and the source of the illicit tobacco shipment.
