Arūnas recounted that he started his embroidery journey at the age of nine. Although embroidery was a craft practiced by his grandmother within the family, his foundational skills were developed during his schooling years. He also shared historical context regarding the craft, noting that during the Soviet era, creating carpets from onion bags using an awl and thread was a popular activity.
Initially, he began by mastering the use of awls before progressing to working exclusively with thread. Following the loss of his employment in the construction sector, the man found himself deeply engaged in his needlework. Arūnas openly stated that he views embroidery not as a profession, but as a personal pleasure that has sustained him from childhood to the present day.
He humorously described his devotion to thread, stating, “As a drug addict, so I consider thread and thread.”
His current artistic focus involves incorporating natural elements, including plants, trees, and bushes, into his work. The embroiderer described his efforts as a form of environmental stewardship. He remarked, “As they say – from garbage collection to all kinds of work with trees.
A nature lover, in a word, I clean up the environment.” Through this dedicated craft, Arūnas continues to combine traditional textile arts with an appreciation for nature.
