As the Children’s Song Festival approaches – memories of famous people: “I really felt like a Lithuanian for the first time”

The Lithuanian National Youth Festival, titled “Laiku. Ratu. Kartu,” is scheduled to take place in Vilnius from July 3rd through the 6th.

This event is anticipated to be the largest gathering of its kind for youth in Lithuania, potentially drawing up to 24,000 participants. The festival stage will showcase diverse artistic talents, featuring hundreds of school groups, choirs, orchestras, and dance ensembles presenting their work. The celebration serves as a significant cultural platform, attracting notable figures from the arts who have themselves participated in the festival throughout their formative years.

Among these distinguished guests is the composer, choir conductor, and pedagogue, Vytautas Miškinis, who is scheduled to perform at the “Dainų diena” segment of the youth event. Miškinis reflected on the significance of such gatherings, recalling his own experience at a previous iteration of the festival. He stated that his first concert memory remains vivid, recalling the large crowd and the collective engagement of the audience as they sang in unison under the conductor’s direction.

The annual festival continues to uphold its role as a major cultural touchstone for Lithuanian arts education and performance. It provides a concentrated showcase for emerging talent while honoring the contributions of established artists. The event promises a comprehensive display of youth creativity, solidifying its place on the national cultural calendar.
