Calls for help from the population: O and A groups blood reserves are rapidly depleting

According to the NKC, maintaining a consistent and uninterrupted supply of essential blood components presents a significant challenge for hospitals, particularly during the summer months. The center highlighted that while patient needs for blood remain constant year-round, donation rates tend to decrease as donors become less active during the summer vacation season. In a recent statement, the NKC emphasized this discrepancy between reduced donations and persistent demand.

The facility noted that the requirement for blood is continuous, serving a diverse patient population. Daily blood transfusions are critical for individuals recovering from severe injuries, pregnant women, patients undergoing complex surgeries, and those managing conditions such as cancer or childhood illnesses. Because the demand does not fluctuate with the season, the gap between supply and need becomes more pronounced during periods of lower donor participation.

To mitigate this risk, the NKC is actively appealing to the public for donations of specific blood types, namely O-, O+, A-, and A+. The continuous availability of adequate blood reserves is paramount to ensuring that medical facilities can provide timely and life-saving care. The center stressed that public awareness and increased participation are necessary to bridge the gap that opens up during the summer period, ensuring that every patient requiring transfusions receives the necessary support without interruption.
