The State Child Protection and Adoption Service has reported a concerning upward trend in the number of minors becoming victims of sexual crimes. According to the service’s statement, the recorded instances of sexual violence against children surpassed four hundred last year. Furthermore, data from the first half of the current year indicates that the number of such cases has already exceeded two hundred.
In response to this escalating issue, a specialized center dedicated to victims of sexual violence is slated to open in the city of Klaipėda. This facility will provide comprehensive, ongoing psychological and psychotherapeutic assistance to those affected. The consistent increase in the number of children who have experienced sexual violence has prompted a directive for enhanced support systems.
Officials emphasized that the responsibility lies in providing specialized care to every child across the nation. During the opening of the new center, the Minister of Social Protection and Labor, Inga Ruginienė, stressed the necessity of establishing specialized assistance resources throughout all regions of the country. The focus remains on ensuring that victims of violence, regardless of their location, can access necessary care.
