Lithuanian and Italian teams deployed to conduct reconnaissance efforts in response to the earthquake in Venezuela. Following this initial assessment, an additional thirteen team members were dispatched to carry out rescue operations within the affected areas. The contingent assigned to the La Guairos region, identified as one of the most severely impacted territories, is operating amid high casualty numbers and extensive damage to infrastructure and residential areas.
The operational conditions are reported as difficult. Rescuers are working in protective gear while contending with high temperatures, reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius, exacerbated by high humidity levels. In parallel efforts across Venezuela, ongoing restoration work is being supported by increased financial aid from the United States, which has raised its contribution to $300 million.
Logistical challenges persist, including a seven-hour time difference between Lithuania and Venezuela, which has resulted in communication difficulties for the personnel. However, it is anticipated that communication links will stabilize by the morning in Venezuela. Despite these operational hurdles, the dedication of the rescuers remains focused on navigating the difficult conditions to provide aid in the affected zones.
