According to the Ministry of Interior, the overall number of recorded criminal offenses in the period spanning 2005 to 2025 showed a notable decline. Specifically, recorded incidents of murder decreased by 81%, robberies fell by 95%, and thefts dropped by 78%. The total count of traditional criminal offenses saw a reduction of 52% over the same timeframe.
However, the ministry noted that this decline in traditional crime is paralleled by an increase in less visible, technology-dependent threats. During the same period, the incidence of fraud cases rose by 25%, alongside a marked expansion in electronic crimes and drug-related offenses. Officials emphasized that while physical crime rates have fallen, the nature of security challenges has become more complex and decentralized, moving increasingly into the digital sphere.
As an example of ongoing enforcement efforts, authorities recently intercepted a drug network in Klaipeda, seizing narcotics valued at 250,000 euros. The Ministry concluded that while Lithuania has experienced improvements in public safety, security concerns are evolving, demanding adaptation to these fragmented and digital criminal landscapes.
