D. Baltrušaitis – about the upcoming “BŪTEN!”: “This is a festival that you have to experience”

Festival organizer Dainius Baltrušaitis stated that the significance of this year’s program extends beyond the roster of participants or the sheer scope of its offerings. According to Baltrušaitis, the most valuable aspect is the chance to engage in meaningful conversation within a contemporary environment characterized by an abundance of opinions, yet frequently lacking genuine dialogue. “What people can most anticipate this year is not a discussion centered on a specific notable participant, nor is it necessarily a famous debate,” Baltrušaitis told Lrytas.

“What is offered is the opportunity to spend two days in a setting conducive to true conversation. We currently exist in times where opinions are plentiful, but substantive dialogue is diminishing. Therefore, the ‘BŪTENT!’ festival has always been, and remains, a space where the objective is not to win an argument, but rather to achieve a mutual understanding.”

The organizer emphasized that the core mission of the event is fostering connection over confrontation.

This philosophy guides the entire structure of the festival. The program for this year is extensive, featuring hundreds of distinct conversations, dozens of dedicated activities, and hundreds of specialized workshops. Nevertheless, according to Baltrušaitis, the overarching theme remains consistent: the gathering serves as a dedicated forum for connection.

The focus for this year’s festival is therefore placed squarely on creating an environment where genuine exchange can occur, rather than merely showcasing high-profile speakers.
