Doctors are worried – more and more people are suffering from stroke at the age of 20: “There have never been such young patients”

Medical experts are currently perplexed by a concerning trend involving strokes in young patients. Dr. Mohammad Anadani, head of neuroendovascular services at the Endeavor Health Neurosciences Institute, noted the unusual nature of the cases.

“We have never had such young patients—never had 20-year-olds suffering from stroke,” Dr. Anadani stated. He added that the incidence of stroke in individuals in their twenties is unexpected.

“We feel more responsibility when we care for such patients, because they are so young.”

Dr. Anadani recently treated two individuals, 24-year-old Ann Fulk and 23-year-old Aubrey Hasley, both of whom experienced strokes. The onset of these events was surprising to the medical team, particularly because both women were reportedly healthy according to standard diagnostic criteria.

Dr. Anadani suspects that the cause of both strokes was embolic, meaning they were triggered by blood clots. This pattern of stroke in young demographics is prompting increased concern and further investigation into potential underlying causes.

The medical community is analyzing these cases to better understand the risk factors and preventive measures for suffering such an event at a young age, aiming to provide more guidance to the public.
