During an accident in Grūto village, a tree fell on a driver who was not sober

Authorities reported an incident today around noon involving a vehicle that reportedly left the roadway and collided with a tree. According to information provided by Jolita Linkevičienė, a senior specialist with the Alytus County Police Department’s Communications Section, the accident involved a Volkswagen car. Initial reports indicated that the driver was intoxicated.

Furthermore, the police stated that two other men and one woman were also reportedly intoxicated at the scene. In a separate mention of related incidents, Ms. Linkevičienė also referenced a night chase in Kaunas where a male driver allegedly veered off the road, resulting in a crash into a tree.

In that instance as well, the driver was reported to be intoxicated, alongside two other men and a woman. Police and firefighters were dispatched to the location to manage the aftermath of the accident and clear any resulting debris. Authorities confirmed that while personnel were working at the scene, the roadway was operational and was not closed to traffic.

The department emphasized that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the vehicle leaving the designated path is ongoing. The police continue to investigate the details surrounding the driver’s actions and the conditions that led to the collision with the tree.
