Reports indicate that during an attempted entry of migrants through a tunnel near the end of July, officers of the State Border Guard Service (VSAT) were attacked. Following this incident, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Martynas Katelynas, initiated a service review. Regarding border management, VSAT reported that sixteen migrants were turned away at the border with Belarus.
To reinforce security, the number of VSAT and VST forces is slated for an increase budgeted at nearly 30 million euros. M. Sinkevičius stated that the attack on border guards was unacceptable.
