Martynas Endrijaitis has been appointed the new head of the State Revenue Inspectorate (VMI), a role he previously occupied as the institution’s deputy head. Separately, the Lithuanian Special Investigations Service (SST) has initiated an investigation concerning alleged misuse within the Palanga city municipality. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the premises on Medvalakio street, specifically how they transitioned from storage areas to recreational facilities.
According to the SST, the complaint was lodged by social democrats Laurynas Šedvydis and Svetlana Tučkė. These individuals initially intended to establish garages at the site. However, they allege that recreational structures began appearing after the land use was purportedly changed, accompanied by signage advertising “Palanga lofts.”
The social democrats contend that the Palanga city municipality failed to update the land use plan in a timely manner.
The involvement of the sst suggests a formal inquiry into potential irregularities regarding municipal land management. The appointment of Mr. Endrijaitis as the new head of the VMI indicates a change in leadership within the tax oversight body.
The investigation underscores ongoing scrutiny of local governance practices, with the elta reporting on multiple fronts of administrative review.
